Duplicate Rainfall Error

Seems like there has been an error out there for some time where more than one rainfall recording was made for the same day.

This problem caused the following message to be shown
Item has already been added. Key in dictionary: '2010-02-05' Key being added: '2010-02-05'

I have put in a fix which should stop the error message from showing, however the underlying reason why two entries were made for the same date still exists.
If you have been able to make multiple recordings on the same day, then please post a comment how. Or drop an email via the feedback form.

Account Login Problems ?

There are a number of issues with account logins at the moment. Please read this post to help troubleshoot when you can't login.

Lockout after 5 attempts.
If you attempt to login 5 times using the incorrect password, your account will be locked out. You will not be able to login again for 30 Minutes.
It is important to note that the same error message is shown while the account is locked. (see the image to the right) So there is no indication that the account is actually locked - you will just need to take a break and try again after at least 30 minutes.

This rule attempts to stop robots from attempting to guess your password by trying many different combinations.

Reset Password
If you can't remember your password, you may want to reset it. This however cannot be done while the account is locked. You will see the error message to the right.

You need to wait at least 30 minutes, then attempt to login once, then go to the "Forgotten password" page.
Yes, it is a bit backward to require you to try the login once before resetting, however at the moment this is the only way.

Last Resort !
If you are unable to login or reset your password, then it is ok to request a reset via the Feedback form. You will need to have access to the email account with which you created the account, as this is the only real way we have of verifying you own the account.

Favourites

With the recent addition of "Email Subscriptions", the concept of member "Email Alerts" has been modified. This concept has been renamed as "Favourites".

You will now see this reflected in a number of places across the website. The pin-tack at the top-right of the station page has been renamed as shown on image top-right.

After pin-tacking at least one of your favourite stations, you will see those stations listed on the left navigation panel (as shown to the left). You can also delete favourites by using the "Manage Favourites" screen, accessible from the user actions panel.

You will still receive email alerts for each item in your favourites list, and in the future you will be able to do easier comparison graphing and reporting based on the stations in your favourites list.

Email Subscriptions

The new email subscription function allows you to add email addresses to an alert list for a station. Each time rainfall is recorded at that station, an email will be sent to email address on the list. This allows you to keep track of rain at stations of interest to you, or to keep friends and family up to date with your rainfall.

To use email subscriptions, look for the link on the top right of the station details screen.

On the next screen you will be able to enter an email and press the "Subscribe" button.

Note: The email alerts are delayed by 10 minutes after rainfall has been entered. If additional rainfall is recorded for the same station within that 10 minute window, then only one email alert is sent. This email will contain the details of all entries made in that window.

Erase Account

Your rainfall reports account can now be completely erased. This may be useful where you no longer want to share your information online, or have moved your data to an new account name.

To erase your account information, select the "Erase Account" link, select the confirmation checkbox and hit the erase button.
This will permanently delete all of your rainfall data.

Please note: There is no way for us to recover your account or your rainfall data once you have performed this action. I recommend that you Export your rainfall data to CVS or to the spreadsheet before attempting to erase your account.

Quick Entry

New daily rainfall amounts can be created quickly from the main page. There is now a quick entry field that looks like this:

The date shown in the drop down list should be todays date. You can also choose any of the last 5 days to enter data - if you require an earlier date, then you will need to go to the normal rainfall entry screen.

If you enter a rainfall amount for a date that already has rainfall recorded, it will ignore your entry, leaving the current rainfall amount unchanged.

Displaying monthly averages on charts

The graphs are capable of displaying monthly average data. This can be seen as a green line on the charts, as shown in the example chart to the left.

The average data is statically defined for the specific rain gauge. It is not calculated from the data recorded for the gauge. This allows you to compare your actual rainfall to historical information obtained from another source, i.e. your local weather bureau.

To enter your historical averages, look for the "Monthly Averages" link from the main page stations listing details (available when you are logged in). The link to use should look like the the image to the right:

From there all you need to do is enter your rainfall amounts for each month of the year and hit the update button, as shown in the following example:
